How to register a marriage with a foreigner 

The Law of Ukraine "On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons" stipulates that foreigners have the same rights and freedoms as Ukrainian citizens. The only additional condition for foreigners to apply for state registration of marriage is to confirm the legality of their stay in Ukraine.

To get married, a foreigner submits a passport or passport document. If the person was previously married, a document confirming the termination of the previous marriage or the recognition of the marriage as invalid is also submitted. A document confirming the legality of stay in Ukraine is also required.

All documents issued by the competent authorities of foreign countries must be apostilled or have consular legalization in the country in which they were issued. Documents drawn up in a foreign language shall be submitted together with their translations into Ukrainian, certified in the prescribed manner.

Thereafter, a foreigner may legally stay in Ukraine. To legalize foreign nationals in Ukraine, they need to obtain a D-14 visa for family reunification with a Ukrainian citizen (on the basis of marriage).

The procedure for obtaining a visa to Ukraine is regulated by 

• The Law of Ukraine "On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons";
• Rules for issuing visas for entry to Ukraine and transit through its territory;
• Procedure for confirming sufficient financial security of foreigners and stateless persons for entry into Ukraine, stay in Ukraine, transit through Ukraine and departure from Ukraine and determining the amount of such security;
